Amazing Adornments Find of the Week
Scaasi
He Made them Big and Bold
Arnold Scaasi did not produce costume jewelry for that many years. In fact, most reference sources say that his jewelry lines were only produced during the years, 1958 or 1959 to 1965. In the wacky world of costume jewelry, that is not a long time. This fact alone makes the jewelry rare.
he began to design jewelry to compliment his clothing line. I think designing clothing gives you a certain adventurous mindset that translates to bold jewelry very well.
Scaasi dressed movie stars, first ladies, the social crowd and singers alike. Known for his show- stopping gowns that fit "real" women and especially for the sheer outfit that Barbra Streisand wore to the Academy Awards in 1969. He has over the years won many awards and has sold clothing on QVC. [Coming soon...How many costume jewelry designers sell on QVC?]
This brooch is what you would expect from a couture clothing designer. This is no cookie cutter brooch. A fair amount of imagination and an eye for detail went in this. Don't the small cabochonsappear to float or orbit atop the spheres? Note the findings holding these stones and the faux pearls are built in.
