Amazing Adornments New Finds
MB Boucher Sterling Ballet Dancer Brooch
According to the Brunialti book, AmericanCostume Jewelry , his name is Peter and he dates to the 1940s. Peter made of gold vermeil over sterling. As you may know this finish was used during the WWII years because sterling was available and most other metals were not. Many costume jewelry
designers, rather than stop producing turned to sterling and aren't we glad they did! We find inspiration in this fact and maybe that explains our fondness for jewelry made during this period.
This piece is also signed with the MB Phrygian cap mark of early Marcel Boucher jewelry. Peter is part of the "Ballet of Jewels" series produced in 1949. As you can see he has a Deco look and the metal has been set with clear rhinestones, pavé style. As with many Boucher pieces,
this one looks very dimensional. In the above mentioned book, he is shown with a partner named Sonia. There are several dancers in the series and they are all considered rare finds.
