Vintage Signed CALVAIRE Sterling and Glass Floral Set|Amazing Adornments Jewel of the Month

Vintage Signed Calvaire Sterling and
Glass Brooch and Earring Set

Researching vintage pieces is much like solving a mystery. Sometimes it is relatively easy due to great documentation by the maker, information found in costume jewelry books, jewelry groups or online. At other times, you have very little to go on.

For many years it was thought that Calvaire was founded by Mr. Ray Calish. Thanks to the persistence of Ann Pitman, author of the Inside the Jewelry Box series of costume jewelry books, we now know that Ray is actually Rachel.  Ms. Pitman also found out that Rachel Calish had a partner named Stella Aronson and that the company was founded in New York.

What does not change is the
quality and rarity of these pieces.
This brooch and earring demi- parure is sterling silver with a gold vermeil finish, indicating it was most likely produced during the 1940s WWII years.  As you can see it is also the patriotic colors of red, white and blue!

The floral brooch is exquisite in design and construction. The open backed, blue glass stones and the red and white flowers are set atop wire that
flow gently, as if being brushed by a gentle breeze. The matching earrings are
the clip- on type.
