We wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
This month we are delighted to have found, what we think is the perfect set to represent the month of December! It is the fabulous "keystone" or tapered baguette design by DeLizza and Elster in red with frosty pastel aurora borealis rhinestones! The colors could not be more perfect for the season of parties and cold weather.

DeLizza and Elster Red Keystone Parure
The set consists of a spray brooch, matching earrings and a five- link bracelet in gold- tone metal. All of the dazzling stones are prong set. The setting is open under the red glass keystones. The keystone pieces began appearing in the late 1950s!
In architecture, the keystone the most important stone in an arch or vault as it sits at the apex and locks all the other stones in place, allowing the structure to bear weight! In jewelry design, this shape can be configured into many interesting patterns. They certainly become a focal point easily! The stones, like many with unusual shapes were expensive to purchase, however that is one of the things we love about D&E. They always sought to design using not easily found high- quality stones and findings.
While writing this, I began thinking of other costume jewelers that I and others have such fondness for. There are many, however Trifari comes to mind. Here is a piece of jewelry trivia regarding D&E and Trifari! Frank DeLizza's father William worked at Trifari while the company was still producing in New York. In his book, Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer, Frank DeLizza states that working at Trifari was the beginning of his fathers love of costume jewelry! Hmm..finding my first piece of Trifari began mine and many other lovers of CJ! All these years later, my love of these treasures has only grown. Can't wait to see what I find next year!
