Vintage Signed DeRosa Sterling 1940s Flower Basket Brooch

Flower basket pins are so endearing. They range from elaborate creations with huge colored glass stones to the demure. Included in the flower basket group would be flower pots, urns and other containers.

Ralph DeRosa, originally from Italy set up shop in New York in 1934. He showed his first collection the following year. DeRosa would most likely fit into the haute couture category if he designed clothing. His pieces are high end and he was considered to be one of costume jewelries finest artisans.
DeRosa along with Trifari and others banned together in 1939 to fight the prevalent copying of others designs. I find this a little humorous as many costume jewelers copied fine jewels of the day, especially during the depression and WWII. Next month, we are posting a vintage clip that is costume, however it surely was inspired by jewels made by Tiffany or Van Cleef and Arpels!

I mentioned that DeRosa was considered high end. Recently, I saw an ad for a 1941 sterling brooch by DeRosa selling for $16.00. That was pricey during those years.
