Elzac Copper and Lucite Brooch – Brunialti Piece
Founded in 1941 this company was located in Los Angeles CA, USA. They made very popular novelty jewelry for a few years during WWII. It seems the company closed its doors in 1947. You can see a very similar pin in the book A Tribute to America by Carla and Roberto Brunialti on page 199. Although this piece is unsigned, it can be attributed to Elzac by studying the copper mask/face designed by Elliot Handler. He received a patent in 1943 for this type of face brooch. See Brunialti page 194. This face is exactly like the one pictured in the mentioned book reference. It is also constructed in typical Elzac fashion, in that the mask is screwed into the lucite. I have seen several unsigned Elzac pieces that are very much like this pin.
