August Jewel of the Month

Trifari 1940s Sterling Soaring Bird Brooch

You might recognize this design as one of many made by the company during the 1940s.
Many of these pins were patented with the issuance to Alfred Philippe. These fabulous pins are some of the very best of Trifari and can be seen in many costume jewelry books including both books
by the Brunialti's.

During the 1940s, many of the materials that jewelry manufactures were using were not available due to WWII needs. Designers turned to sterling, wood and what ever was available that they
could utilize. Think of some of the 1940s Haskell pieces. many were made from wood! It seems hard times brought out the best in these folks. Some of the very best costume jewelry was produced during this period, IMHO!!!

This sterling silver bird is plated with gold vermeil and set pave style with rhinestones. It has a huge near aqua glass body and a delightful red glass eye.

Three of the tiny clear rhinestones were missing when we found this. We had them professionally replaced with Trifari rhinestones by: http://www.mrstones.com/ use this link for stone replacement:

~ Matthew is the best! Millions of stones in stock!!

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to have such a fine vintage piece restored. These pieces will never be made again. It is highly unusual to find these pins with all of their rhinestones intact. If you are lucky enough to do so, be prepared to pay a Queen's ransom!!!
