Bogoff Rhinestone Necklace and Baer and Wilde Cufflinks in Presentation Boxes

Amazing Adornments New Finds

Jewelry in Presentation Boxes

From time to time we come across costume jewelry in their original boxes. In the past we have found a lovely clear rhinestone Weiss demi and a pair of Baer and Wilde cufflinks to name a few. It is always nice to find pieces like this and according to some costume jewelry books the box increases the value. We like them because usually the boxes are long gone.

Granted it is sometimes difficult to determine if the box is original. we are sure that in your vintage jewelry travels you have noticed unscrupulous sellers/dealers who will tell you just about anything. These dealers make it harder for everyone else as one burned the buyer will question all dealers, even those that would never think of misrepresenting their wares. It is even more challenging if the piece in the box is unsigned. So how do you know?

What we do is look for vintage advertisements of examples in costume jewelry books or reputable dealers websites. If the piece is signed and it is in a box with the makers mark, we try to determine if the motif of the makers mark on the box is consistent with the time period of the piece. If the piece is unsigned and we cannot find examples of the box, we look at the box to see if it "looks" like the the piece belongs to the box. Usually all one can say is that the piece is in a box, rather than
the "original" box.

This past week we found two more items. First is a drop- dead gorgeous necklace signed Bogoff. We love this one as all Bogoff jewelry is extremely well made right down to the chain. It will be available for sale at http://www.amazingadornments.com/ next month. In the meantime check out our other Bogoff jewelry at out the Bogoff Gallery.

Baer and Wilde makers of Kum-a-Part snap cufflinks of buttons is actually associate with Swank. Baer and Wilde had their company in Massachusetts and Swank was founded in new York. Swank has been in business since the late 1890s. The Baer and Wilde snap on cufflinks were produced until at least the mid 1930s maybe later. They were worn by kings and other stylish gents for over 800 years. Once only for the rich, companies such as Swank began to mass produce them so they were more affordable for the average male.

Cufflinks
reached their peak of popularity during the 1960s. Cufflinks are so popular again thanks to the reemergence of the French cuff.

This pair of links does look to be in the original box and will be available for sale next month at Amazing Adornments. Take a stroll through our Gentlemen's Accessories Gallery to see the cufflinks we currently offer.
