Norma Sterling Jelly Belly Figural Pin
How cute is this? He/she is not quite Gene Kelly, however doesn't he/she look like he is signing in the rain?
Norma is another company without an abundance of information available. We have seen several sterling jelly bellies with this hallmark and they appear to have been produced during WWII 1940s. We have seen a date of 1950 for the companies beginning. We tend to think this date is inaccurate. This piece is certainly more representative of the mid 1940s and the topper is that this pin appears in the Brunialti book A Tribute to America, on pages
143 and 144. The dates in the book are 1943-1944.
Along with the pre-requisite clear Lucite belly, the duck or penguin is holding a delightful umbrella. The red rhinestone eye really adds drama.
FYI.....As buyers we always see vintage costume jewelry and even contemporary jewelry with colored cabochons being described as jelly bellies. In the strict sense of the term, they are not. The plastic must be Lucite and it must be clear to be considered a true jelly belly.
Jelly bellies are highly collectable and some are quite pricey, topping in the thousands of dollars! These are usually the rather large pieces.
