Jakob Bengel Art Deco Chrome and Galalith Necklace
Prior to the discovery of Jakob Bengel's pattern books his jewelry was thought to be French by many. The mistake is understandable
as the jewelry does have the look of the French Avant- garde jewelry being produced at the same time. The French artists were not alone in their desire to create works that would not be considered within the norm by the mainstream societies of the period.
During the 1930s when this jewelry was produced it was not highly regarded. It was plastic! Now, we now not only collect it, we covet it!
Two years ago we were able to purchase Jakob Bengel necklaces for half the price we are paying today. We have watched the prices steadily climb on Ebay as well as other online venues, antique shops and shows.
This simple yet striking double knot necklace is of chrome. It has the industrial look of the Machine Age. The ends are finished
with large red Galalith spheres. It closes with a spring- ring clasp.
