Amazing Adornments Jewel of the Month
Marcel Boucher
"Harlequin" Dancer Brooch from the "Ballet of Jewels" Series
The "Ballet of Jewels" line was produced by Marcel Boucher
during 1949 and 1950. The series included eight pins including a prima ballerina all dazzlingly outfitted with rhinestones set in two toned metal. The arms of the pins were designed so that the female and male dancers could interlace. What attention to detail. Not surprising as Boucher is one of the costume jewelers that had an eye. He was doing more than whipping out costume jewelry, he was an artist creating mini works of wearable art.
This is Harlequin, one of the male dancers. Look at the fabulous and colorful stones set on his pants. His shirt is set pavé style with clear rhinestones. He appears on several costume jewelry books including the new Brunialti book American Costume Jewelry: Art &Industry, 1935- 1950, on page 71. His partner is Columbine. Visit our Marcel Boucher Gallery to see more dancers from the series.
