Frank Hess for Kramer "Amourelle" Wired Faux Pearl Brooch
If you follow our blog posts of have visited our site, you know that we do not like to use the term rare. We feel it is overused especially at auctions. How many times have you searched on eBay and found a piece described as "rare" only to find several more just like it listed? The one that really agitates is when the same "rare" piece is being listed several times by the same seller!
Well, here is a truly rare piece. It is signed Amourelle. This is a hallmark that Kramer used for pieces designed by Frank Hess. Frank Hess was one of
Miriam Haskell's head designers and is often credited for creating the "Haskell" signature design. Thus the Haskell look this pin exhibits.
So why is it rare? The partnership did not last but for a few years and not that many pieces were produced. We also feel that jewelry with this hallmark is not easy to find. in our minds, that is rare!
All of the tiny imitation seed pearls are wired to a double filigree backing, just like Haskell pieces. The metal is Russian gold- tone.
This piece is slightly flawed. One of the faux pearls has a small spot of damage off to the side. As you know sometimes a small amount of
damage is still acceptable to collectors if the piece is really special.
Usually pieces like this develop verdigris on the wire used. This is not the case with this beautiful classic brooch.
