Vintage Signed Schreiner Rhinestone and Glass Demi- parure

In many circles Schreiner pieces are considered an investment. They were never inexpensive and the prices have only continued upwards over the years. The same can be said for jewels produced by many designers and sometimes these high prices are not justified. I have never been able to say this about Schreiner creations. They are always worth the price!
So, why do I say this? Well, for one thing, every single piece of jewelry this company produced was hand- made as opposed to mass produced. This is a time consuming and expensive endeavor. Naturally, this would add to the price of a piece.

Another factor is the quality of the materials used. One of the most mentioned characteristics of Schreiner pieces is the high- quality stones used. The glass and rhinestones are sometimes irregular in shape. High quality plating, usually smooth is also noted. Still another characteristic is the construction. It is top of the line. All you need to do is pick up a piece and hold it. Should you turn it over, you will notice the difference between these pieces and others.
This autumn hued set of rhinestones and glass, shows so many examples of the exquisite workmanship we love including the stabilizer bars/ring, the hook and eye construction and the use of a variety of prongs.

Schreiner Rhinestone and Glass Set

This metal is gold- plated. The brooch is constructed in two parts. This is another technique that adds to the price of pieces. It is much easier to cast one continuous section or surface, rather than two or more that will need to be attached! The stones are glass and rhinestones in the shades of an autumn leaf. The matching earrings are the clip- on type.
This set is signed, however it is possible to find unsigned Schreiner jewelry. In addition to the characteristics mentioned, the company often used inverted stones and necklaces with five ring, four rhinestone extenders.
Apparently this company did not use the copyright symbol, meaning other dating methods would be necessary. They were in business up until the late 1970s.
Many collectors and authors have said it is always a good idea to buy Schreiner pieces, that are in good condition, when you see them as they represent some of the very best costume jewelry you can find. As always it is better to purchase sets if you can find them. Happy hunting!
