Find of the Week

French Art Nouveau Era
Blériot Airplane Pin

Signed FIX

This is a great period piece! Just the type of jewelry I love to find. Not only is
this a beautiful piece to look at with it's fine and delicate detailing it is
meant to commemorate a historical event. In 1909, Louis Blériot successfully
crossed the English Channel in a monoplane that he designed and built. This is a
miniature replica of that type of plane.

Imported from France, it is gold plated and signed FIX. FIX is a plating technique used during the
Art Nouveau period. It is said to be so thick that it can sometimes fool gold testers into registering solid gold.

I was delighted to see that the propeller is still intact. When seen, these antique pieces sometimes have the propeller missing or bent. It has the very old style safety pin clasp and the mark
appears on the reverse.
