Amazing Adornments QVC Jewelry Junk or Treasure?

QVC and HSN Costume Jewelry

Junk or Treasure?

I started this article a couple of weeks ago after I was speaking with a fellow costume jewelry dealer about purchasing some jewelry. The dealer kept aying that most of what was for sale was "QVC" quality. I wasn't sure how she meant this. Was she dissing the jewelry? More on that later.

While pondering what the dealer said and while trying to gather my thoughts for this article, quite by coincidence the subject came up on one of the vintage costume jewelry group boards that I am a member of. My thoughts began to crystallize when someone posted that is was important to watch who is selling on QVC, the Home Shopping Network and the like. She also posted that it is important to watch what they are selling and recommended that other members of the group visit these sites.

Bingo! That is exactly what I was thinking. So when my dealer friend tried to dissuade me from buying jewelry that was "QVC" quality, I didn't fully understand. I know that some very well respected costume jewelers sell in these venues. The product they sell there might not be of the
same quality as those sold at the better department stores, that is a given and the jewelry sold on QVC by say, Kenneth Lane is mostly mass produced. Maybe I am NOT enough of a jewelry snob. I want all KJL. I want his early exclusive pieces as well as those that are mass produced. I am aware that the mass produced pieces will not increase in value as much as the others. I never said I
was making an investment in these pieces, only that a few here and there doesn't hurt. More to the point and as my fellow jewelry group member said. You need to check these venues out. I am not sure how one keeps up with the trends if one does not. Sure, there are mags, the web etc, but there is nothing like actually seeing what is selling. Also, celebrities like Suzanne Somers come up with lines of jewelry that could just be the next big thing!

One problem I do have is that I would hope we would continue to manufacture jewelry here in the United States. Most of the mass produced jewelry sold at these venues is made elsewhere, mostly China. I know the days when Providence Rhode Island was the Mecca of the jewelry
universe will probably never return. I do think it will be a shame if all jewelry manufacturing goes the way of so many other products and services and the USA no longer has a strong presence.

So with all that said, here a few pieces that I believe were sold on QVC or HSN or are by jewelers that sell at these types of venues.
