Amazing Adornments New Finds
Urie Mandle Dagger and Sheath Chatelaine
Murray Slater is listed as the designer of this chatelaine pin on the patent which was issued in 1947. Urie Mandle began his company after working first at Coro where he rose the ranks to become one of their most successful sales people and then at Lisner.
This piece is hefty when you hold it and so cool! You can wear it with the dagger in the shield or outside of the sheath. Both the dagger and sheath have pin assemblies. See the additional images link below. The top of the dagger has a fleur-de-lis handle set with a large red rhinestone. The sheath is black enamel with red and clear rhinestone decoration.
This piece is unsigned, however it has been attributed to Urie Mandle. A similar piece appears in the book American Costume Jewelry by Carla and Roberto Brunialti on pages 239 and 240.
