Virgil Cantini Enamel on Copper Cufflinks|Amazing Adornments.com Find of the Week

Virgil Cantini
has been a US resident since 1930. Originally from
Italy Mr. Cantini settled in Pittsburg PA after being raised in the West
Virginia steel town Weirton. Lucky Pittsburg!! We have great "public" artists
here in the Northeast, one in particular that we at Amazing Adornments
admired and he was a friend. We own two of his outrageous mask sculptures. He
never made jewelry unfortunately and well lets just say he was not fond of the
political aspects of "public" art. Sadly, he passed away last year. His art work
remains gracing many buildings, courthouses, clubs and of course private homes
and apartments.

Mr. Cantini is prolific. Not only is he an amazing sculptor whose work decorates many buildings, lobbies and homes in Pittsburg, he is an educator [professor emeritus at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, founder of Pitts studio
arts program] and an enamellist. Below is a fine example of his wonderfully
balanced enamel work.

These cufflinks are copper. The faces are in shades of blue and white enamel with a thick copper surround. They are counter enameled on the reverse and the signature appears in script.
