Summer 2007 Jewelry and Fashion Trends
Some might call this summer season schizophrenic. It's the 60s until it's the 1970s or 1980s redux, sometimes all at the same time! Some might bemoan the classic silver- tone and to a
slightly lesser extent gold- tone metal that seems to be everywhere. They ask "Is glitz totally dead?". You hear these laments each and every time rhinestones take a less prominent position in the designers mind, marketing experts plans, professional buyers hopefulness and on you and me. That is just not fun nor is it the way we think!
Overall Style Outlook: Bold, big, saturated, layered, funky and metal! The trend towards metal jewelry has certainly continued from this Spring. We have seen this on the catwalk, on television and on the streets
Clothing and Handbags: Tropical colors, white, gray, bights, geometric and animal prints, wide- legged pants, futuristic looking, mini skirts and dresses, even ankle hitting dresses. Crochet, madras, We spotted headbands in cloth, metal and plastic both wide and narrow. Chunky shoes and wedges were a sharp contrast to the little ballet flats. Peep toes were everywhere. We spotted strappy sandals in all heel heights. Handbags are also all over the place in size and seriousness. We saw large colorful bags, large yet elegant straw bags and more demure clutch bags.
Costume Jewelry:
- For the Neck: Long, metal preferably hammered, bold loops, silver- tone more prevalent than gold tone. Layering is still with us. New is the
geometric shaped of some of the pendants. Large disc shaped pendants have also been spotted. Crystals, gemstones. Now would be a good time to find and wear your long Chanel necklaces!
- For the Wrists: Again we saw lots and lots of metal bangles. we noted thick looped bracelets, heavy charm bracelets
as well has wide, statement making gold and silver- tone bangles sometimes stacked sometimes alone. - For the Ears: Long, short, buttons. Huge hoops, outrageous dangles in metal, crystal and gemstones.
